Thank you for your interest in applying to be a counselor at Kickapoo Kamp for Girls. Before you complete the application, we want you to be aware of the staff policies which you would be asked to follow. We don’t want there to be any surprises later.
Kickapoo Kamp Staff Policies
Employment as a Kickapoo counselor involves a great deal of responsibility and hard work. The days are long, but the setting is spectacular, the activities are awesome, and the people with whom you will work will have a positive impact on your life. Counseling is a position which relies as heavily upon your image, character and reputation as it does upon your skills. Because of this, the importance of our community reputation, and the demands of our camp families, we have strict staff policies. We expect that a summer at Kickapoo will be one of the most rewarding, memorable, and entertaining of your life, and these policies are intended to enhance, not interfere with that intention. It is our position that adherence to staff policies is a strict matter of trust. Failure to uphold staff policy is a breach of trust and makes for undesirable youth workers and role models.
Because of the oftentimes negative nature and poor language, “Parental Advisory” music is not permitted at camp. Listening to improper music is not even allowed on headphones, as campers will want to know what you’re listening to and will listen when you are gone.
Sexually explicit photos, magazines and other merchandise are not allowed at camp.
Heavy metal, sexually suggestive, violent, and other inappropriate t-shirts, hats, posters and such are not permitted.
While tiny nose piercings and belly-button piercings are permitted, other piercings are not permitted. We ask that you maintain this appearance while on the camp grounds. Tattoos are treated similarly. While removal for the summer is impossible, proper selection of clothing or band-aids is important in minimizing their exposure to the campers. No allowances will be made to this rule without written consent of the camp director.
Narcotics and all illegal substances are not allowed. Both the use and the possession of illegal substances is cause for immediate dismissal. The committing of any illegal offense while under contract with Kickapoo Kamp is similarly cause for immediate dismissal.
The use of mind or mood altering drugs which are prescribed by a physician must be disclosed to the camp director prior to the offering of a contract.
Our immediate camp grounds are smoke-free. Our employee smoking policy strictly limits where and when you can smoke.
Immoral behavior at any time or improper language around campers is not acceptable.
Alcohol use is strictly prohibited while employed by Kickapoo Kamp.
All staff members have a 12:00 curfew on nights off and must be back in their cabins by 12:15.
